Kamaka Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia kamaka) are considered a dwarf species of Melanotaenia. They are fairly new to the hobby, first collected in 1995. Their name comes from the lake they were collected in, Lake Kamakawaiar. They are an active schooling fish that max out a little over 3 inches inches. Therefore we recommend a 3 foot aquarium at adult size. It's important to note, like most rainbowfish, Kamakas have narrow throats and should not be fed medium or large size pellets.
