The Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.) is one of the most popular and practical algae-eating fish in the freshwater aquarium hobby. Known for their manageable size, hardy nature, and unique appearance, these fish are a staple in community and planted tanks alike.

They will graze on algae and biofilm but should not be relied upon as the sole method of algae control.

Suitable tank mates include:
